Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin - WINS

Summary of the Workshop

The inception workshop Humboldt University’s recently founded international forum known as WINS or the “Berlin Workshop in Institutional Analysis of Social-Ecological Systems”, took place with grand success from the 14th to 16th of July, 2014 at the Jacob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Zentrum, HU Berlin. Over 80 participants took part in the two and half day event where eminent scholars working on social-ecological systems from around the world came to present their views. In the face of global climatic change, food problems, natural resource crunch and environment degradation, WINS is dedicated to the mission of identifying, decoding and designing institutional structures which shape and regularize social-ecological interactions towards a more sustainable outcome. The workshop witnessed intense discussions on these issues and scholars went back with better ideas on how to shape research so that the academic community can provide state-of-art scientific advice on solving ecological problems. The event concluded with speeches from the founder of WINS, Prof. Konrad Hagedorn, Humboldt Vice-President for academic and international affairs Prof. Michael Kämper-van den Boogart, the Director of IRI THESys Prof. Patrick Hostert, IASC Council member Prof. Insa Theesfeld and Director of the Ostrom Workshop at Indiana University Bloomington, Prof. Tom Evans.
