Central Asian WINS Workshop in Berlin, January 26-29, 2016

The Central Asian WINS Workshop on “Persistence and Change of Institutions in Natural Resources Management in Central Asian context” was organized by the WINS Central Asian Working Group in close cooperation with two research projects: the InDeCA project “Designing Social Institutions in Transition: Promotion of Institutional Development for Common Pool Resources Management in Central Asia”, funded by the VolkswagenStiftung, and the NAREMACA project “Natural Resource Management in Central Asia”, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. It was also supported by the Erasmus Mundus Euro-Asian CEA programme “Euro-Asian Cooperation for Excellence and Advancement”, funded by the European Commission.

The main aim of the workshop was to contribute to the on-going political and scientific discourse regarding institutional change and their impact in Central Asia and facilitate cooperation between researchers from Central Asia and Germany. The participating researchers and practitioners from the region as well as from Europe presented their research on topics such as cooperation and conflicts for resources, transformation of local resource use practices and implementation of decentralization reforms, and discussed problems and opportunities related to institutional change in natural resource management in Central Asia. They explored possibilities for future cooperation in research and education. The event took place at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin from January 26-29, 2016.
