Film Viewing: Embrace of the Serpent

Told from the gaze of an indigenous healer in the Amazon, into whose world have come various sorts of Europeans, with various aims and aspirations, this film combines a splintered post-colonial narrative of trauma, tragedy and transformations with an exceptionally beautiful visual aesthetic that accompanies the viewer, making it possible to bear witness to what has happened.  Building on numerous true stories, woven together to present an historically accurate, fictional, heroic saga, Embrace of the Serpent demonstrates the veracity of the idea that truth is oft best spoken in jest.  It is an artistically and historically important work that speaks directly to the questions of life in The Anthropocene with which WINS is most deeply concerned.

The film will be presented in original version with English subtitles.
